Vehicle or machine toroidal gear has needle roller with axially-directed crowns reducing mechanical wear and noise and extending service life

A toroidal gear has a radial roller bearing with a number of needle rollers. The two end sections of each needle roller have an axially-directed crown towards each end. The crown is located between 7 - 13 per cent from the end, along the length of the needle. The degree of crowning is 0.1 - 0.4 per cent of the outer diameter of the axial center section. Further, the inner surface of the drive output disc bears a fitting section which interlocks with a matching surface, and also forms an external rolling interface for the needle roller bearing.
