This novel method deposits a coloured design onto a moulded, vulcanised rubber object (6), especially a tyre, by thermal transfer. In the new process, the object is moulded with slight projections (8), on the surface (7) where the design is to be affixed. The conventional transfer comprises a thin transfer substrate (2) carrying a coloured ink (GREEN) in the form of the design. This ink can be vulcanised. Cut-outs (5) are made in the transfer, matching the number, shape and disposition of the projections. The transfer is placed into an optimal position over the projections, the cut-outs fitting around them. When located, it is pressed to transfer the design. The ink is transferred thermally onto the object. Also claimed are (i) a transfer for application to the surface of a tyre, essentially as described; and (ii) the tyre decorated as described. |
