The press fit for a pipe has a flexible narrow component (8) at the outside of the press fitting element (1) arranged so that, when the pipe (2) is pushed into the press fitting (1), the component (8) is forcibly carried with it. On achieving the required insertion length, the component (8) is visible from the outside on the outer surface of the press fitting element (1) without creases.
