<p>A message switch operable in a cluster of message switches comprises a directory 10 including entries for subscribers of the switch (Auser, Cuser) and subscribers of other switches in the cluster (Buser, OtherB), with each entry including a unique identifier. A first port 12 transmits and receives messages to and from subscribers of the switch, and a second port 21 transmits and receives messages to and from subscribers of the other switches in the cluster according to the X400 protocol. The first port analyses recipient addresses in received mail messages and generates temporary directory entries 16, 16', 16", 18 for those addresses not associated with subscribers of the clustered switches. The second port does likewise and packages directory entries of recipients in mail messages transmitted to other switches in the cluster. The switch may be a Lotus Messaging Switch (LMS). The invention provides a method of clustering switches with no noticeable degrade in mail functionality.</p> |
