Soft top of a motor car is locked in place against the windshield frame on the body by a lock comprising a housing (18) located on the soft top side, having a movable locking hook (20) which interacts with a link on the windshield frame. The hook is moved from the open to the closed positioned by a motorised actuating mechanism, which includes a gear motor oriented parallel to the long dimension of the hook. A transverse transmission member and a gear (24) act on a drive lever (25) which moves the hook. The housing is preferably screwed to the rigid front frame of the soft top, the fastening screws being concealed from the vehicle occupants by plastic caps.
