The invention provides an organic electroluminescent device comprising a substrate (1), an organic electroluminescent structure (3) formed on the substrate and a sealing sheet (2) for sealing up the organic electroluminescent structure. The sealing sheet (2) has a light transmittance of 80% or greater with respect to at least one of 355-nm wavelength light, 532-nm wavelength light and 1,064-nm wavelength light. A desiccant is located on the inside of a junction for fixing the sealing sheet (2) onto the substrate (1) and on the outside of a space in which the organic electroluminescent structure (3) is formed.
