PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide hydrogen storage alloy powder for a hydrogen battery and a method for the manufacturing in which electrochemical characteristics of the hydrogen storage alloy powder, in particular, AB5 type hydrogen storage alloy powder for a negative electrode material of a nickel hydrogen battery can be remarkably enhanced. SOLUTION: In a hydrogen storage alloy powder for a hydrogen battery, powder prepared by a gas atomizing method for a misch metal/nickel based hydrogen storage alloy, powder prepared by subjecting a misch metal/nickel based hydrogen storage alloy to heat treatment, or a sintered body is charged into an acid solution, followed by surface treatment while agitating up to a neutralization region, thereby re-depositing nickel at the surface of the powder so as to form a nickel surface layer. Consequently, it is possible to enhance high-rate discharging characteristics and enable the hydrogen storage alloy powder to be used also for application requiring high-rate discharging which could not be conventionally used in a nickel hydrogen battery, to thus produce a remarkably excellent effect. |
