PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a chain from being slipped by a simple structural contrivance at a low cost with a little appearance change. SOLUTION: This chain saw comprises a ringlike chain 3 with a tooth part for cutting a wood or the like, a guide bar 7 for supporting the chain 3 in its rotation which is arranged on the outer periphery of the guide bar 7, a sprocket 6 for rotating the chain 3 through being engaged with the latter, a sprocket support 8 for fixing the guide bar 7 to the body of a chain saw 1 and protecting an engagement part between the chain 3 and the sprocket 6, a guide bar fixing bolt 10 for fixing the sprocket support 8 and the guide bar 7, a drive part for driving the sprocket 6 and a protecting cover 9 for protecting the chain 3 by wrapping the non-cutting part thereof. The outer periphery of a spot of the sprocket support 8 which protects the engagement part between the chain 3 and the sprocket 6 is made larger than the outer periphery of the tooth part of the chain 3. In addition, the thread part 10a of the guide bar fixing bolt 10 is lengthened and the opening part of the protecting cover 9 is partially blocked with the thread part 10a.
