<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the subject head easily worked, employing less material (produced inexpensively) and capable of driving a golf ball to a more distance than a conventional wood by providing a large recess in a sole part. SOLUTION: A large recess 5 is formed in a wood sole 3. When a golf ball is hitted by this wood head, a force of 1 ton/cm or more is applied to deform the ball and the face part. When the ball is hitted at a sweet spot, the face part is turned into a concaved mirror like shape instantaneously, and short portions 6, 7 integrated with the sole part 3 are deformed in the directions shown by arrows 10, 11. However, the applied force is instantaneous and the face and opposite ends 6, 7 once deformed tend to resume their original shapes. If the time when the ball is released from the face part after striking it corresponds to the time when the opposite ends 6, 7 tends to resume their original forms after they are deformed, the force to resume the deformed wood is applied to the ball so that it is driven to a remote distance.</p> |
