PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To nofity a user distant from a device of the state of the device. SOLUTION: When a document image read by a scanner 102 is printed on a printer 2095 to obtain its copy, the user sets to the scanner 102 an electronic mail address to which a notice of the state of a copy job is given. The scanner 102 sends an electronic mail wherein the state is recorded to the set address if an error occurs during a read of the document or printing on the printer 2095.
