PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the boundary peeling of electrode parts formed at a display element substrate when cutting out the display element substrate from a material substrate. SOLUTION: The electrode parts (anodes 3 and cathodes 6) are formed in the portions of the material substrate 1 to be used as the substrate for the display element. Electrode patterns for testing for the purpose of insulation inspection are connected to the electrode parts. The electrode patterns for testing are extended beyond cutting-off lines L to the material substrate exclusive of the substrate for the display element and are connected to common electrodes (4 and 7). When the building-in of the elements ends and the insulation inspection is completed by using the common electrodes, part of the electrode patterns crossing the cutting-off lines are removed by a laser. When the plate is cracked by forming grooves along the cutting-off lines, tension and compressive force are not applied to the electrode parts and, therefore, the peeling of the ends of the electrode parts of the resulted substrate for the display element from the substrate may be prevented.
