PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a device, capable of being installed in a narrow space above a heat insulating wall, prominent in durability and permitting the sure and synchronized elevation of a plurality of wires, in the opening and closing device for a heat insulating wall (heat insulating curtain), provided at the opening part of a floor when the wide space of the floor of a building is utilized as a refrigerating chamber or a cold heat retaining chamber. SOLUTION: A device is provided with a ball screw 17, arranged horizontally above a heat insulating wall 1 in the widthwise direction of the same, an elevator motor 18, driving the ball screw 17 into normal or reverse rotation, a movable pulley 21, supported axially by the ball nut 6 so as to be turnable, and a plurality of wires 4, whose one end is fixed to the movable pulley 21 and wound about the movable pulley 21 with a horizontal U-shape and whose other ends, hung through fixed pulleys 12, 12,..., are connected to the lower side of the heat insulating wall 1. Even when the width of the heat insulating wall 1 is narrow, the opening and closing device is received in the width of the heat insulating wall. A cable is wound around the movable pulley 21 in the shape of U only and the superposing of the cables can not be caused whereby the correct and synchronized elevation of a plurality of pieces of the cables can be secured.
