PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chair type stairway elevating device which can improve the value in the design of the whole body of the chair type stairway elevating device by making a rack invisible, and can prevent the generation of an injury or a dirt of the clothing by the rack. SOLUTION: In this chair type stairway elevating device 21, two lines of up and down rails 22 and 23, and a rack 37 parallel to the rails are provided along the slope of a stareway A, an elevating mechanism 25 installed to the rails 22 and 23 is made movable along the rails 22 and 23 by the pinion of a driving machine engaged with the rack 37, and a chair 30 is installed to the elevating mechanism 25. In such a chair type stairway elevating device 21, the rack 37 is set in a concealing condition housing in the rail 22, and thereby, the rack 37 is made invisible, so as to improve the value in the design of the whole body of the chair type stairway elevating device 21, and the generation of an injury, a dirt of the clothing, and the like by the rack 37, is prevented.
