PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly accurate catalyst deterioration detecting apparatus for hybrid automobiles. SOLUTION: This catalyst deterioration detecting apparatus comprises a catalyst 15 provided in an exhaust manifold 6 of an engine, an air-fuel ratio sensor 32 disposed downstream of the catalyst 15, an electric motor MG2 coupled to the output shaft of the engine, and a control means 40 for temporarily stopping the engine under a predetermined running condition as well as driving the electric motor MG2. Further, this apparatus also comprises oxygen amount estimation means 40 for estimating the oxygen amount stored in the catalyst 15, and deterioration judging means 40 for judging deterioration of the catalyst 32 from the output of the air-fuel ratio sensor 32 after resuming the drive of the engine and the oxygen amount estimated by the oxygen amount estimation means 40. |
