PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the silver halide color photosensitive material using a silver halide photosensitive emulsion with little occurrence of fogging, even in infrared sensitization by adjusting the pAg value of the emulsion to a specified value between the beginning of chemical sensitization and addition of a sensitizing dye. SOLUTION: A sensitizing dye of 730 nm<=λmax added to the silver halide emulsion, after the beginning of chemical sensitization and the pAg value is adjusted to the range of 7.50-8.25 between the beginning of chemical sensitization and addition of a sensitizing dye, preferably by using a chloride salt such as NaCl. A mercapto compound and a deflocculating agent may be added in this time range. PH value is controlled to 4.9-7.5 in this time range. The silver halide emulsion has a tf value of 3.7×10-12 or smaller at 10 deg.C or higher after addition of the dye, thus permitting the obtained silver halide emulsion to be small in occurrence frequency of fogging, even in the case of infrared sensitization.
