PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve various types of work efficiency by transmitting expansion energy to a piston at high efficiency by making use of super-expansion energy. SOLUTION: This system contains two main piston cylinder chambers 2A, 2B that alternately carry out four-stroke operations of an intake stroke, adiabatic compression stroke, ignition expansion stroke (adiabatic expansion stroke), and an exhaust stroke. An auxiliary piston cylinder chamber 3 that performs only the expansion and exhaust strokes is placed between these two main piston cylinder chambers, connected via valves 4A, 4B, respectively. By establishing an alternate connection between either one of the two main piston cylinder chambers 2A, 2B to the auxiliary piston cylinder chamber 3 by opening or closing the relevant valve 4A or 4B, expansion energy required for a work system W during the ignition expansion stroke (adiabatic expansion stroke) of the main piston cylinder chamber is generated also in the auxiliary piston cylinder chamber 3 simultaneously.
