PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reorient paper sheets continuously positively even when many paper sheets are delivered continuously at short passing intervals. SOLUTION: A transfer path of paper sheets 100 has an abutment member 43 for rotating paper sheets 100 transferred thereto and pressed thereon by horizontal ninety degrees, and deflecting rollers 41 and 42 for guiding the paper sheets 100 either in the abutment transfer direction or in a non-abutment transfer direction before they reach the abutment member 43. The transfer direction deflection depends on the state, rotating or nonrotating, of the deflecting rollers 41 and 42. The nonrotating state, for example, keeps the transfer path of the paper sheets 100 unchanged so that they butt against the abutment member 43.
