PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an inorganic antimicrobial agent having excellent safety, capable of sufficiently exhibiting antimicrobial power even in use for synthetic resins, coating materials, rubbers, or the like, by supporting silver ion or silver complex ion on a calcium silicate-smectites complex by ion exchange. SOLUTION: (A) A calcium silicate-smectites complex obtained, for example, by adding 15-55 wt.%, calculated as CaO, of a calcium compound to a clay mineral and treating the clay mineral at 40-180 deg.C under normal pressure to 10 kg/cm2 is immersed in (B) a silver ion or silver complex ion-containing aqueous solution [e.g. an aqueous solution of silver sulfate or silver nitrate, an aqueous solution of dicyanoargentate (I) ion, dithiosulfatoargentate ion, or the like] and, if required, the anion of the aqueous solution is neutralized with an alkali salt or an alkali hydroxide and subjected to ion exchange to support silver ion or silver complex ion on the complex.
