PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a resin composition which can give a molding improved in mechanical properties, heat stability, and a degree of whiteness by adding titanium oxide to an aromatic polycarbonate resin obtained by reacting a dihydric phenol with a carbonate precursor. SOLUTION: A dihydric phenol is reacted with a carbonate precursor at 120-350 deg.C in the presence of a catalyst comprising 10-8 to 10-5 mol of an alkali (alkaline earth) metal compound and/or 1×10-5 to 1×10-3 equivalent of a nitrogenous compound, per mol of the dihydric phenol, a terminating agent, and an antioxidant, and the formed alcohol or phenol is distilled in a vacuum of 10-0.1 Torr to obtain an aromatic polycarbonate resin having a terminal hydroxyl content of 0-40 mol % based on the total terminals, a viscosity-average molecular weight of 12,000-30,000, particularly, 14,000-270,000, and a residual catalyst activity index of 2% or below, particularly, 1% or below. This resin (100 pts.wt.) is compounded with 0.1-100 pts.wt. titanium oxide surfacetreated with a silicon compound and having a mean particle diameter of 0.01-0.5μm.
