PREPARATION OF CATALYST COMPOSITION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prepare a linear phosphonitrilic halide usable as a catalyst when preparing a polyorganosiloxane without using a chlorinated solvent by reacting PX5 with a disilazane in an inert unchlorinated solvent. SOLUTION: This method for preparing a phosphonitrilic halide represented by the formula (X(PX2=N)aPX3)+A- [X is a halogen; A is X or (PX6)-; (a) is 1-9] comprises a first step for reacting (B) PX5 with (C) a disilazane (preferably hexamethyldisilazane) in (A) an inert unchlorinated solvent (preferably toluene) under cooling at <=0 deg.C temperature under refluxing the solvent, a second step for heating the above reactional mixture to at least 50 deg.C for a time sufficient to produce the phosphonitrilic halide and further a third step for adding cyclohexane into the reactional mixture and producing a phosphonitrilic halide- containing species.
