PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To bond a pair of transparent substrates with good accuracy, without the occurrence of mispositioning at the time of baking of a sealing material. SOLUTION: This apparatus has a positioning member 10, which attracts and fixes a pair of glass substrates 2 and 3 respectively to stationary plates 11 and 12 facing opposite each other and positions a pair of the glass substrates 2 and 3 in this state via the sealing material 4, heaters 13 and 14 which heat the sealing material 4 between a pair of the glass substrates 2 and 3 subjected to positioning at a temperature lower than the thermosetting temperature and a pressurizing member 17 which pressurizes the heated sealing material 4 via a pair of the glass substrates 2 and 3. Then, the sealing material 4 between the pair of the glass substrates 2 and 3 positioned by the positioning member 10 is heated by the heaters 13 and 14, with which the viscosity thereof is lowered. Since the sealing material is pressurized by the pressurizing member 17 in this state, a pair of the glass substrates 2 and 3 is formed in advance to substantially the same spacing S as the spacing of gap materials 5 prior to the baking of the sealing material 4, so that the occurrence of misalignment in the pair of the glass substrates 2 and 3 at baking is obviated.
