PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To split a bamboo simply and efficiently and remove the intermediate knots of the bamboo easily by moving the long bamboo with the intermediate knots in the direction where a cutter is fitted of a cutter fitting part. SOLUTION: A cutter 16 is fitted to a cutter fitting part 36 and a knot removing attachment is fitted to the cutter 16 in accordance with the size of a bamboo. A switch lever 12 is pulled and a piston is moved to the left by a hydraulic pump unit 6 and a push member 24 pushes the bamboo to cause the cutter 16 to pass through the bamboo so that it is split and the intermediate knot of the bamboo is removed by the joint removing attachment. Then the knot removing attachment finds its way into a storage part 28 at the extreme left end of the moving range of the push member 24, and further, the small dia. spring of a spring device 76 below a rest 26 which moves together with the push member 24, pushes a switch 86. In addition, the rest 26 moves to the right and the spring 34 of the spring device 76 pushes the switch 88 of a stopper 46 to immobilize the piston. The switch lever 12 has only to be pulled to split the bamboo and the cutter 16 stops at its home position automatically after splitting. Thus it is possible to split the bamboo automatically into a plurality of segments and easily remove the intermediate knot.
