PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aromatic polycarbonate excellent in hue and heat resistance and having few branches. SOLUTION: This method for producing an aromatic polycarbonate by reacting a carbonic diester with bisphenol A comprises using the carbonic diester and the bisphenol A in which content of 2,4'-dihydroxydiphenyl-2,2-propane in the bisphenol A is <50 ppm and the total content of iron in the carbonic diester and the bisphenol A is <=0.1 ppm.
