PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To emit sufficient light even near the periphery of an irradiated plane by efficiently feeding thermoelectrons on the whole phosphor-coated film surface faced to a light emitting side. SOLUTION: In this light emitting device A, an air gap layer is formed between two glass substrates, and a transparent electrode as an anode and a phosphor coating film are formed on the inner surface of the substrate on a light emitting side, while filaments 51-54 as cathodes are wired in parallel in the direction of the line Ln on the inner surface 2a of the substrate 2 on the back side. Both end parts 5a, 5b of each filament 51-54 are bent with the main line part 5c formed in a shape of an overhead wiring on the inner surface 2a. The main line parts 5c of each pair of adjoining filaments 51 and 52, 53 and 54 are bound by wires 6a and 6b, 6c and 6d, respectively. A driving circuit of each filament 51-54 is adjusted so as to cause a voltage phase difference between the adjoining pairs of filaments 51 and 52, 53 and 54.
