PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recognizing device capable of recognizing a prescribed image by exactly performing recognizing processing even when the size of an input image is made different by magnification. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a dictionary generating part 1 for storing dictionary data for each area for which the recognition pattern of a detection object is fractionized, area matching part 2 for comparing/ matching inputted image data with individual dictionary data stored in the dictionary generating part, arrangement information generating part 4 for storing the arrangement information of fractionized areas, and pattern detecting part 3 for judging whether the recognition pattern exists in the image data under processing at present or not based on the relative arrangement information of fractionized areas corresponding to a variable power stored in that generating part 4 and the output of the area matching part.
