PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the increase of a furnace length, to use energy efficiently, and to prevent the adhesion of refuse and others to a coated surface by heating a place of inferior temperature increasing properties convergently when the coated surface of a car body is baked in a drying furnace. SOLUTION: The temperature increasing properties of the thick plate part of a car body W is improved by a process in which an indirect heating furnace 3 for heating by radiation heat and a direct heating furnace 4 for heating by a hot air convection method are installed along a work conveyance path, the pressure of the furnace 3 is made higher than that of the furnace 4, and heating mechanisms 3, 4 are installed around the furnace 4, so that the temperature increasing properties of the thick plate part of the car body W are improved. A heating panel type preliminary heating units 2 are installed separately upstream from the furnace 3 on the upstream side in the conveyance path, and the exhaust heat of the furnace 4 is used as the heat source of the unit 2.
