PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reciprocating type scum scraping apparatus capable of collecting scum in high concentration with a simple structure. SOLUTION: This reciprocating type scum scraping apparatus comprises a scraping member 11 which scrapes scum S in the going direction while the lower end being positioned under the water surface at the time of going movement and moves in the coming direction while the lower end being kept above the water surface. The apparatus is further provided with a plurality of engaging pieces 21 installed at prescribed intervals along the reciprocating direction and a driving mechanism reciprocating to the distance wider than the installation intervals of the engaging pieces 21 and a ratchet mechanism which is engaged with the engaging pieces 21 and whose engagement state is reversed at the time of going movement and coming movement of the scraping member 11 to move the scraping member 11.
