PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for polymerizing a liquid oligomer not containing a carboxylic acid-containing monomer and its salt, not requiring water or other solvents, and not containing polluting substances such as metals, salts and surfactants. SOLUTION: This continuous polymerization method comprises (1) a process for forming a reaction mixture containing (i) at least one ethylenic unsaturated monomer in an amount of 0.5-99.95 wt.% based on the weight of the reaction mixture and (ii) at least one free radical polymerization initiator in an amount of 0.05-25 wt.% based on the weight of the ethylenic unsaturated monomer, but substantially not containing a carboxylic acid-containing monomer and its salt, and (2) a process for forming a terminally unsaturated oligomer by continuously passing the reaction mixture through a heated zone wherein the reaction mixture is held at a temperature of at least 150 deg.C at a pressure of at least 30 bars for 0.1 see to 4 min. |
