PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a shield machine which can excavate tunnels having differ ent cross-sectional diameters, by extending a cutter spoke and inserting a space between split surfaces of segmented body parts. SOLUTION: A copy cutter 11 attached to a cutter spoke 10 is projected in a radial direction of a cutter head 2, a space is inserted between split body parts 18 so as to enlarge the diameter of a shield body 3. Then, the cutter spoke 10 is rotated so as to advance the shield body 3. With this arrangement, the single shield excavator 1 can form a tunnel having a large cross-sectional diameter.
