PRODUCTION PROCESS OF SILICONE CARBIDE SINTERED BODY

PURPOSE: A silicone carbide sintered body is provided which consists of an alumina and a yttria as a sintered agent that are molded and then sintered in an inert gas to produce a silicone carbide sintered body. CONSTITUTION: A sintered body is produced by the following steps of: (1) Adding the total 3-20wt% of alumina and yttria with their weight ratio 8:2-6.5:3.5 to 80-90wt% of silicone carbide powder to produce molding materials; and (2) Sintering the produced molding materials under inert gas condition of 1750-1950°C to produce a silicone carbide sintered body. Thereby, it shows excellence in fineness and physical character without forming large quantity of pores on the surface of the sintered body by dissolving and volatilizing the sintered agent.
