PURPOSE: A recording conversion system of a DVCR(Digital Video Cassette Recorder) is provided to classify HD(High Definition) TV signals into HP(High Priority) data and LP(Low Priority) data, and to record all the HD and the LD data in an S(Super)-VHS tape, then to record the HD data only in a normal VHS tape. Therefore, the HD TV signals are recorded regardless of the normal-VHS tape or the S-VHS tape. CONSTITUTION: A data separator(1) receives HD(High Definition) TV signals to a start code and an end code of I-frame data, and extracts the I-frame data only. A switch(2) selects the HD TV signals or selects the I-frame data(HP(High Priority) data). A data formatter(3) formats the I-frame data and P-frame data, or inserts dummy data to maintain a half ratio of original data by inputting the I-frame data only, then formats the dummy data. An amplifier(4) amplifies output data of the data formatter(3) with a level appropriate for recording the output data in a tape(5). A tape decider(6) confirms whether a mounted tape is a normal-VHS tape or an S-VHS tape, and outputs a mode selection signal to each system unit. A clock generator(7) generates a clock signal having a predetermined period necessary in a system. A divider(8) 2-divides the clock signal. A switch(9) selects an output signal of the clock generator(7) or the clock signal of the divider(8), and supplies the selected signal to the data separator(1) and the data formatter(3).
