POLY(ETHYLENE-CO-OXYDIETHYLENETEREPHTHALATE) COPOLYMER CONTAINING OXYDIETHYLENE IN MAIN CHAIN

PURPOSE: A process for preparing a polyester containing oxydiethylene in a main chain of a polymer by polycondensation is provided which produces the title compound by use of diethylene glycol generated as a side reaction in the manufacture of a polyester. CONSTITUTION: A poly(ethylene-co-oxyethyleneterephthalate)copolymer of formula 3 is prepared by (a) reacting terephthalic acid derivatives of formula 1a, ethylene glycol and diethylene glycol in the presence of metal acetate at 180 to 205°C, (b) polycondensing the reactant in the presence of metal acetate at 250 to 280°C under reduced pressure of from 100 to 10 torr for 50min to 1 hr, (c) polycondensing at 280°C at a pressure of 1 to 2 torr. In formula, R1 is H or C1-C10 alkyl, x is above 70 mol%, (1-x) is below 30 mol%. The copolymer resin is excellent in adhesive property and film formability and has improved processability.
