PURPOSE: A method for controlling a track jump of an optical disk system is provided to simplify an acting procedure for jumping a track to reduce time required to jump the track. CONSTITUTION: A method for controlling a track jump of an optical disk system includes eight steps. A first step is to judge whether a key signal for a track jump is inputted or not in a reproducing state. A second step is to detect the present track position and detect a distance between the detected track and an object track when the key signal is inputted. A third step is to judge whether an optical picking up unit(110) is arrived to the object track after transferring all of the optical picking up unit so as to correspond to the distance. A fourth step is to detect the present track position when the optical picking up unit is not arrived. A fifth step is to detect a track number remaining in between the present track position of the fourth step and the object track position. A sixth step is to drive a tracking actuator coil so as to correspond to the remaining track number. A seventh step is to judge whether the optical picking up unit is arrived to the object track or not according to the driving of the tracking actuator coil. A eighth step is to stop the driving of the actuator, feed back to the first step, and, repeatedly, perform the above steps when the optical picking unit is arrived.
