PURPOSE: A method for calculating the center and the radius of a minimum area circle is provided to precisely measure the outer diameter and the inner diameter of a target. CONSTITUTION: Average values for X and Y axis data are obtained for being established as a present center. A radius distance(R1) from the present center to an inscribed circle and to a circumscribed circle is obtained. Moreover, the distances from the present center to every measured data are obtained. A point moved for a certain distance toward a farthest point and toward the central direction of the opposite direction of the nearest point is established as the next center. Then, a radius distance(R2) from the next center to the inscribed circle and the circumscribed circle is obtained. If the radius distance for the present center is larger than the radius distance for the next center, the next center is established as the present center. An enlarging ratio is multiplied to the moving distance for being established as the moving distance. If the radius distance for the present center is smaller than the radius distance for the next center, the present center is maintained. A reduction ratio is multiplied to the moving distance for being established as the moving distance. Herein, the calculation is repeated for minimizing the difference between the radius distance between the present center and the next center or for minimizing the moving distance.
