PURPOSE: A method and a device for tracking an optical disk player are provided to stably perform tracking when performing track jump or playback by using a step motor in an optical disk such as a CD-ROM, a DVD-ROM, or a DVD player. CONSTITUTION: A track jump mode is selected, and a tracking error signal is detected from a high frequency playback signal played back in pickup. The tracking error signal is converted into a TEZC(Tracking Error Zero Cross) signal. The number of the converted TEZC signals is counted. The numbers of tracks and micro-steps corresponding to the number of the TEZC signals are detected from a lookup table. A pulse width modulation signal corresponding to the number of the micro-steps is synchronized with the TEZC signal for being outputted to a step motor. Herein, the step motor is rotated according to the number of micro-steps. Thereby, the moving distance of an actuator-driving unit is minimized to improve the efficiency of the track jump.
