PURPOSE: A method for periodically outputting an alarm message in a switching system, is provided to periodically inform an operator of information on an alarm suppressed as a specific state is generated during an operation of the switching system, and on a fault suppressed according to large generation, so that the method enables for the operator to easily grasp information and states related on an alarm. CONSTITUTION: A switching system has a main processor, an operation & maintenance processor(OMP) and a remote alarm device. The main process of a distributed structure has a first buffer storing information on a self-generated alarm, a suppressed alarm and a suppressed fault due to large generation. The OMP has a second buffer storing alarm or fault information generated each subsystem of the main processor by using a history pointer. A method for periodically outputting an alarm message in the switching system comprises the steps as follows. Time is counted from a start to an end of a cycle. A history pointer of the second buffer, started to store the alarm information after the start of the cycle, is stored. Alarm information generated each subsystem of the main processor is sequentially stored by discriminating history pointers after the start of the cycle. A history pointer of the second buffer, where alarm information is stored lastly in the end of the cycle, is stored. Alarm details, stored in the second buffer during the cycle time, are output at a time of an output cycle.
