PURPOSE: An apparatus for controlling brightness of PDP TV is provided to prevent the damage of the PDP elements and decrease the fatigue of viewer's eye. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for controlling brightness of PDP TV comprises a Y/C divider(100), a decoder(110), an A/D converter(120), a data re-arrayer(130) and a lookup table(140). The Y/C divider(100) divides brightness signals(Y) and color signals(C) from input images. The decoder(110) recovers the color signals from the divider into R, G, B signals and provides average picture level values of the brightness signals. The A/D converter(120) samples the average picture level values by some sampling clocks to convert them into digital data and convert the R, G, B signals into digital data.
