PURPOSE: A pickup actuator is provided to prevent the generation of a rolling phenomenon by conforming the centers to gravity and driving in operating focusing and tracking. CONSTITUTION: Two yolks(116) are arranged face each other along a tracking direction. A couple of permanent magnets(132) are attached on the facing surfaces of the yolks. Herein, the flux directions of the magnets are parallel with the tracking direction. A driving unit contains focusing coils(134) and tracking coils(136). The tracking coils are wound up to face the side surfaces of the permanent magnet. The flux density distribution of magnetic field is vertically formed with the tracking direction. Therefore, the driving center of a lens holder(120) is placed on the parallel line with the tracking direction. Even if the gravity center of the lens holder is replaced, the strength of flux density is unified at the replaced location.
