PREPARATION OF ANIMAL FEED-STUFF FROM FOOD WASTE USING NEW STRAIN OF LACTOBACILLUS FERMENTUM KY 2524

PURPOSE: New strain of Lactobacillus fermentum KY 2524, isolated from feces of porcine, shows resistance to acid, heat, antibiotics and bile acid. Preparation method of animal feed from food waste using new strain of Lactobacillus is provided CONSTITUTION: Feces of young porcine is collected and the pH thereof is adjusted to 3.0. LBS agar plate is used to isolate lactobacilli. Acid resistant lactobacilli are screened on MRS medium and oxgall is used to isolate bile acid resistant colonies. Finally heat resistant lactobacilli are isolated and named as Lactobacillus fermentum KY 2524 (KFCC 11060). Inoculation of Lactobacillus fermentum in the food waste reveals that Lactobacillus fermentum grows well compared with known lactobacilli and the number of lactobacilli reaches 10¬6-10¬8 cfu for 15 hours incubation. In order to increase the quality of animal feed stuff, 1-30 % of corn steep liquor or 1-20 % of molasses is added into food waste. Preparation of animal feed stuff comprises steps of a) selective collection of food waste, b) stirring and grinding, c) neutralization, d) sterilization, e) fermentation with Lactobacillus fermentum KY 2524.
