ASPECT RATIO CONTROLLING APPARATUS AND METHOD OF DISPLAY DEVICE

PURPOSE: An aspect ratio controlling apparatus is provided to realize an appropriate ratio display corresponding to a screen ratio of a display device by removing upper and lower black bars appearing when a 16:9 display appears on a 4:3 screen. CONSTITUTION: A signal receiver(500) receives a video signal transmitted from external for displaying on a display device. A transforming unit(300) transforms re-establishes a display ratio of the video signal to be changed in a certain type in case that black bars are detected from a detector(200). Display unit(400) displays the re-established video signal in the transforming unit(300). A controller(100) generates a control signal for changing the video signal and displays the changed video signal in case that the black bars are detected in the detector(200).
