PURPOSE: A method of detecting facsimile/modem tone of a base station controller for wireless local loop system and its apparatus are provided to detect a facsimile/modem tone by analyzing the PCM data input by using 1800 KHz and 2100 KHz filters regulated as a facsimile tone or modem tone as well as the neighboring frequency filter. CONSTITUTION: In the WLL system having a base station controller including a transcoder for compressing 64 Kbps voice data into ADPCM data, a predetermined number of 8 bit PCM data are received and stored. Input data are filtered by each frequency and levels of the corresponding frequency are output. The levels are compared with each other and the highest frequency is detected. The highest frequency is analyzed if it is a facsimile tone or modem tone in a digit analyzing step. On the basis of the data from the digit analyzing step, the corresponding facsimile tone or modem tone data are generated.
