955,174. Filtering particles from gases. SOC. DES PRODUITS AZOTES. Feb. 27, 1961 [Dec. 22, 1960], No. 7135/61. Heading BIT. An installation for the extraction of dust from the smoke given off by electrometallurgical furnaces comprises a filtering layer 7 of fragments of solid materials, e.g. calcareous stones, quartz and sand or elements intended to be used in the furnace charge, the layer 7 being such that the ratio of the total quantity of dust-laden smoke passing through the layer to the total plane section of the layer results in a nominal speed of the smoke of between 0À5 cm/s. and 3À5 cm/s. per second, the layer including particles the dimensions of which are between those of the screen-mesh modules No. 8 to No. 18 of B.S. 410:1943. The smoke is collected in a chimney I from which it passes to a tower 2, in which it is water cooled, a fan 3, a battery of cyclones 4 and a conduit 5 leading to a flue 6 located beneath the layer 7 and having connected laterally thereto flues 8. The filtering layer 7 is disposed on a slightly inclined platform and is preferably constituted by a plurality of superposed beds the elements of which vary in size from one bed to the next with the smallest forming the top bed.
|
