PURPOSE: A pipeline DCT apparatus is provided to reduce a delay time produced in a DCT calculation process and lower the power consumption by omitting a calculation process of a unnecessary high frequency coefficients. CONSTITUTION: A DCT coefficient range to be calculated from an entire DCT area is controlled by an external control signal. The DCT coefficient range to be calculated is determined according to the characteristics of an input image signal. The characteristics of the input image signal is statistical characteristics of the DCT coefficients to have been calculated prior to the present DCT coefficient calculation, and the statistical characteristics of the DCT coefficients to have been calculated is an average of quantized DCT coefficients. |
