PURPOSE: A character input method is provided to toggle a character corresponding to input numbers of a numeric key button under a character input mode in a communication terminal where one key button is correspondent to a multiple of characters, and make a displayed character selected if a correspondent key is pushed for more than a designated time. CONSTITUTION: A character input method comprises steps of determining if a character input mode is selected by a CPU(410), making the CPU get into a character input mode(420), determining if a numeric key data is input from a key button(430), displaying a character corresponding to an input numeric key(440), checking if a same numeric key is consecutively input(450), checking if a consecutive input key is pushed for more than a set time(460), displaying a next character corresponding to the consecutive input numeric key if the pushed time is less than a set time(470), and selecting the current displayed character if the pushed time is more than a set time(480).
