PURPOSE: A method for setting the clock data of a VCR(video cassette recorder) is provided to reduce an ACS(auto clock setting) time by performing the ACS to channel containing the synchronize signal. CONSTITUTION: A lowest-ranked channel is selected while receiving an ACS key input signal. A synchronize signal for the ACS key input signal is detected. When the synchronize signal is detected, a clock data in the broadcasting signal of relevant channel is detected. When the synchronize signal is not detected, the selected channel is skipped for selecting an upper channel to repeat the detection of the synchronize signal. If the clock data are detected, the detected clock data are set. If the clock data are not detected, the selected channel is skipped for selecting the upper channel to repeat the detection of the clock data. Thus, an unnecessary ACS time is reduced to minimize the entire ACS time.
