PURPOSE: A method for setting up the compensation amount of impact drop in a roller is provided to improve the quality of a rolled product and real efficiency and to stabilize the strip tension between stands and a looper angle. CONSTITUTION: A micro processor(32) receives set up data such as the steel kind and size of rolled sheet, the rotation speed targeted value of a roll, the compensation amount of impact drop and so on needed in rolling. Further, the micro processor judges whether the impact drop amount corresponding to the steel kind and size of the rolled sheet to roll at present is stored in a table. If not stored, the impact drop amount is calculated and is tabulated. If stored, the compensation amount is set up by using the impact drop amount. The compensation amount is set up 30 to 60% of the impact drop amount, more desirably 40 to 50%. The compensation amount of the impact drop is output and added up with the rotation speed target value. Thereby, the impact drop of a main motor is compensated by using the compensation amount.
