PURPOSE: A system for preventing a wrong recording of a DVCR(Digital Video Cassette Recorder) is provided to decide that a presently-running tape has a failure when lights from light emitting elements are not normally incident on light receiving elements, and to record a skip signal without recording a recording signal on a failure-generated part. Therefore, data loss is prevented. CONSTITUTION: Light emitting elements(32A,32B) and light receiving elements output signals in accordance with lights, which are incident on the surface of a tape(33) to be normally reflected or irregularly reflected. A reflected light comparator(37) scans the output signals of the light receiving elements, and outputs a control signal in accordance with a normal reflection or an irregular reflection. If the lights are irregularly reflected by being controlled by the reflected light comparator(37), a skip ID signal generator(38) outputs a skip ID signal. When the skip ID signal is inputted, a delayer(35) holds back an output of a recording signal inputted from a signal processor(34). A preamplifier(36) amplifies an output signal of the delayer(35) with a level appropriate for recording the output signal. Write/read heads receive the output signal of the preamplifier(36), and record skip signals on the front and the back of a damaged part of the tape(33).
