PURPOSE: A transmitter of a dual mode communication device, is provided to minimize power consumption in transmitting data by operating a supply current of a drive amp adaptively, according to each mode and an output power. CONSTITUTION: A transmitter of a dual mode communication device, comprises a base band processor(101), a modulator(103), an automatic gain controller(105), an up converter(107), a drive amp(201), a drive amp current controller(203), and antenna(119). The base band processor(101) responds to such as a transmit power control command from a base station, to generate a transmit power control signal, a mode signal, and a digital signal. The transmit power control signal is for adjusting a transmit output level. The modulator(103) demodulates the generated digital signal. The automatic gain controller(105) responds to the generated transmit power control signal, to control a gain of a signal generated from the modulator(103). The up converter(107) converts frequency band of a signal generated from the automatic gain controller(105), into a frequency of a transmit band. The drive amp(201) amplifies an output of the up converter(107). The drive amp current controller(203) responds to the transmit power control signal, to vary the supply current of the drive amp.
