PURPOSE: An apparatus for preventing dazzling is provided to protect worker's eyes, to significantly reduce power consumption, and to avoid erroneous operation due to a light or electromagnetic wave having noise components. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus comprises optical detection means, non-optical detection means, control means, and light transmission means. The optical detection means is optical signal detector (14) which includes optical sensor (4) for detecting the light generated from a welding or cutting torch. The non-optical detection means consists of a RF signal detector (16) for detecting electromagnetic wave generated from the torch and a temperature detector (18) for detecting an ambient temperature of the torch through a thermistor such as a temperature sensor (8). The control means is a microcomputer or a control circuit for monitoring changes of light, frequency and temperature signals obtained from the optical and non-optical detection means. The light transmission detection means includes an oscillating circuit (22) which operates when a power is above a predetermined level, a power source (24) which operates by an output of the oscillating circuit (22), a starting circuit (26) for supplying an initial starting power to a dazzling prevention plate (5), a concentration controller (28) for controlling concentration of the plate (5), and a driving circuit (30) for controlling the plate (5) based on the output of the starting circuit (26) and concentration controller (28).
