PURPOSE: A method for generating and recording record digital data stream administration information is provided to allocate the received data into a predetermined units. CONSTITUTION: A method for generating and recording record digital data stream administration information includes two steps. At the first step(S15), the received data stream is designated into a predetermined recording units. At the second step(S16), the edge of the allocated recording unit detects and records the display position of unit time representing the predetermined time interval of the data stream and record size information departed from the display position. The record size information is further a number of sectors corresponding to the amount of data departed. The number of bits of the departed record size information is varied according to the size of the unit time. The information on the number of the record bit is recorded in addition to an administration information of a record set.
